Newcastle upon Tyne
Newcastle upon Tyne is a city and metropolitan borough in Tyne and Wear, England. It is situated on the northern bank of the River Tyne, opposite Gateshead to the south. It is the most populated settlement in Tyneside and North East England.
Newcastle sprang up around a Roman hamlet called Pons Aelius, which became Monkchester before acquiring the name of a castle built in 1080 by William the Conqueror's eldest son, Robert Curthose.

Sunderland Tyne and Wear
Sunderland is a port city in the English county of Tyne and Wear. It is the administrative centre of Sunderland and is located in the mediaeval county of Durham. The city is located 16 kilometres from Newcastle upon Tyne and on the mouth of the River Wear to the North Sea. The river also runs through Durham, around 19 kilometres south of Sunderland City Centre. It is the county's only other city and, after Newcastle upon Tyne, the second largest community in the North East.
